This spring, 4th Corner partnered with Banbury Town Council to restore and revitalise a community pond area that had suffered from ongoing water retention issues.
The project involved replacing a failed pond liner, reshaping the pond banks, and installing a new culvert connection to improve water flow between two ponds. Working alongside Banbury Town Council staff and local volunteers, our team delivered a practical environmental improvement that will benefit both local wildlife and the wider community for years to come.
The project presented several challenges, heavy clay soil made excavation and reinstatement particularly demanding, while access limitations required careful planning and coordination. Using two 5-ton excavators, specialist compaction equipment, and a collaborative on-site approach, the team successfully overcame each obstacle as it arose.
Over four intensive days, the pond was fully excavated, regraded, lined with three heavy-duty pond liners, and carefully reinstated using reclaimed topsoil sourced locally through the Council. The installation of the new culvert further improved the long-term sustainability of the site.
The success of the project was made possible through strong collaboration between 4th Corner, Banbury Town Council, park staff, and community volunteers. The volunteers also reinstated the surrounding hedge following completion, while new pond planting has helped enhance the biodiversity of the area.
